According to initial reconstructions of the accident, the worker was fatally crushed by a forklift during normal operations inside the plant. Despite the immediate intervention of his colleagues and subsequent resuscitation attempts by emergency medical services, there was nothing that could be done for the young man. Firefighters, Carabinieri, and workplace safety technicians from the local health authority (ASL) arrived at the scene to carry out the necessary investigations and impound the affected area.

Unfortunately, the Lucca accident is not an isolated case; rather, it is part of a truly dark day for national workplace safety, which saw two other fatalities occurring simultaneously in the Reggio Emilia and Catania areas—both also due to crushing incidents involving industrial and logistics vehicles (forklifts).
