20 employees! What now?

As our company grows, we are also venturing into areas that are still uncharted territory for us. Questions such as “How should we respond to a fire? How can we prevent workplace accidents? And how can we ensure that our employees work under ergonomic conditions?” are playing an increasingly crucial role in this regard.

Did you know that…

  • Every employer with at least one employee is required to have an in-house safety officer.
  • If there are fewer than 20 employees, the employer may serve as the safety and health advisor. Otherwise, the employer must appoint a staff member who does not hold a managerial position to serve as the safety and health advisor.
  • This person must have a basic understanding of workplace safety and well-being. This can be demonstrated by completing a Level 3 safety advisor course.
  • The prevention advisor must also undergo regular continuing education (at least once a year) to stay up to date on developments in the field.

Duties of the Prevention Advisor

The Workplace Well-Being Act (Codex Welzijn Op Het Werk) provides a legal framework for the prevention advisor. The Workplace Well-Being Act outlines the working conditions that must be respected. According to the Workplace Well-Being Act, well-being revolves around:

  • Workplace safety
  • Protection of employees’ health
  • Ergonomics
  • Occupational hygiene
  • Improvement of the workplace environment
  • Psychosocial Aspects in and Around the Workplace

The prevention advisor assists the employer in implementing measures related to well-being and serves in an advisory capacity. The prevention advisor’s duties are focused on identifying risks and preventing them through preventive measures and procedures:

  • Risk analysis: identifying hazards, investigating workplace accidents …
  • Advice: advising on workplace organization and environmental factors, work equipment, hygiene…
  • Administration: drafting annual reports, developing a comprehensive prevention plan, drawing up procedures…

A Word from Our Safety Advisor

Given our company’s strong growth over the past year, we have reached the milestone of 20 salaried employees. Effective immediately, our consultant Dorien will assume the role of safety advisor.

“When I started at Farma Consulting & Partners, I had already earned my Level 3 safety advisor certification. Upon reaching the 20-employee mark, I was asked if I’d be interested in taking on the role of in-house safety and health advisor. I didn’t hesitate for a moment, and I’m eager to become the driving force behind safety and health. I’m happy that, through my role, I can contribute to greater well-being, safety, and happiness in the workplace for all my colleagues!”
